All these pioneers came from Ireland to the South Coast from Sydney; to Kiama, Berry, Jamberoo, Gerringong and Kangaroo Valley. The scenery in this area must have reminded them of the homeland.
John McInerney was born 1839 in Drumcharley (Tulla) County Clare. His parents Denis and Margaret (Brody) were living at Tome near Tulla when he departed in the ship Star of Brunswick in 1865 and went to Berry.
James and Mary Fields and children departed from Moy Tyrone, arriving in 1858 in the ship David McIver. Their son Bartholomew was their sponsor. Michael Fleming left his parents in Meroo Limerick in the Corona 1877. His father John was a blacksmith and his mother was Mary McNamara. Hugh Moss and Hannah (Lynch) were from Termonamonagan Tyrone departing from London in the Lord Hungerford in 1844. This voyage was eventful as on the sixth day from leaving London they were in a storm in the Bay of Biscay where the ship lost a mast and a sea boat. Even so the ship did not make for land and repairs. During the storm Hannah gave birth to their first child, Mary Ann. Mary Ann was baptised a few months later in Jamberoo.
